How To Maintain A Perfect Reputation (According To Selena Gomez)

Friday, February 19, 2010 3:46 PM
quick takeSelena on bullying, high school, and how to maintain a positive reputation. Is anyone else hoping that this is foreshadowing her demise from teen stardom?
Ok, this is getting old!
Selena Gomez just became the millionth celebrity to report trouble with bullies and fitting in, joining Taylor Launter, Miley Cyrus, and Megan Fox, among others. Is pity the new it-thing in Hollywood??
Selena admitted, “I’m always made fun of. There was a group of girls who were on the meaner side. It’s a big deal trying to fit in at school and making sure you’re in the crowd. I always try to say, ‘Be the best you can be.’ I think you learn a lot of lessons. Everybody goes through that.”
On getting over the torment, Selena keeps her head up no matter what: “Everybody has had to do that at one point in their life. I always say if you take the high road, you’re much better off. I’ve always taken the higher road and look where I’m at now. So very happy!”
Despite her recent rise to fame, Selena assures us that she still faces teasing today. So how does she deal? “I embrace. My mom taught me to be ‘whatever’ about things. Basically to not take things so personally. If you are confident in yourself and know who your true friends are, you’ll be happy. You can’t think that you’re not as good as anyone else. Be careful what you do, say, and who you hang out with. Represent yourself well.”
Ahh, such a simple notion, and apparently one that’s too difficult for many celebs to live by. Let’s hope she sticks to it and doesn’t train-wreck her success. Then again, that would make for some great gossip…
