MTV’s Jersey Shore aired its second season finale on Thursday and pulled in an astounding 6.1 million viewers. This makes Jersey Shore the highest rated show in MTV history!

Now that GTL has become a part of our cultural lexicon, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that the show dominates the ratings. And yet, part of me can’t believe the show was even renewed for a second season. Honestly, how much more Jersey can this country take? The show will probably stay on the air until Snooki dies of alcohol poisoning.

Should it bother us that the show pulls in WAY more viewers than any of the cable news networks? The Jersey Shore has more than twice the number of viewers as Fox News, which leads in the ratings. That means many American teens know more about DJ Pauly DJ and JWoww than they do about their own country.

America just can’t get enough of the Guido’s and Guidettes who run the show. I guess South Park didn’t really get their message across did they? Well hear it now, “Jersey really is taking over America!â€
