We can’t think of a better role model than Taylor Swift.

The country singer has earned her reputation as one of the greatest young songwriters working today with talent and hard work alone, and she has handled her fame and success with unparalleled grace and humility. She doesn’t use sex appeal or controversy to sell records like some other young pop stars (we’re looking at you Taylor Momsen), and at the age of 21, she’s just getting started.

Swift recently shared some wise words for her young fans, calling it the best advice she ever got as a teenager.

“Live your life like you’re 80 looking back on your teenage years” T-Swift says. “You know if your dad calls you at eight in the morning and asks if you want to go to breakfast? As a teenager you’re like no, I want to sleep.

As an 80 year old looking back, you have that breakfast with your dad. It’s just little things like that that helped me when I was a teenager in terms of making the choices you won’t regret later.”

Can you think of any other pop star who has achieved her level of success without getting caught up in some kind of controversy? If you want to have a career in the entertainment industry, then Taylor Swift is living proof that you don’t have to sell out or compromise to succeed.
